I’m Dr Alison McKinlay, a Chartered Psychologist passionate about applying behavioural science to improve health and social care.
I collaborate with academics, charities, and public sector partners to translate research into practical solutions that reduce inequality and create lasting impact.
Researcher
With over 15 years of experience, my research explores the impact of public health policies, healthcare systems, and behaviour change interventions.
Results from the research I’ve worked on have been used by policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, patients and the public. I am particularly interested in how evidence can be translated into scalable solutions that improve both policy and everyday practice.
Advocate
I advocate for health equity and social justice by serving on domestic abuse boards and leading initiatives that challenge stigma and drive systemic change.
Through projects such as Plain Sight, I ensure lived experience shapes research and policy recommendations, amplifying underrepresented voices and promoting trauma-aware practice.
Guest Speaker
I bring over a decade of experience delivering talks that make complex research accessible and engaging.
I have spoken at national conferences, universities, and public forums, tailoring each presentation to resonate with diverse audiences, from policymakers to community groups.
My talks combine scientific rigour with real-world relevance, bridging the gap between research, practice, and lived experience.
